Candice and Dave’s million dollar rockstar wedding at the Breakers Hotel Umhlanga. Part One

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

I have been seriously excited to blog this post as there is something really amazing about photographing a friends wedding. In my experience the pics just land up having an honesty and an edge to them which must be attributed to there being a mutual understanding and comfort between subject and photographer.  Dave and Cands are both musicians, super people and fabulous subjects!!  If you haven’t already seen their engagement pics, head right over by clicking here. These two seem to call everyone they like or admire rockstars but they were the true rockstars of this day! I worked pretty darn hard on this wedding but it was soooo worth it, and I do hope I did this special day justice. Due to the fact that I took like a trillion pics …. I am dividing this little love fest into two blog posts starting with all the morning prep here in Part One. Enjoy! PS As this wedding was held in Umhlanga and that the boys surf we had to start off with some surf action, the boys got ready at Candice and Dave’s flat and the girls preened at The Breakers Hotel where they had their reception.

My house, my life, my now … a look into Jacki land! Part four

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Its exhausting being me sometimes, my mind never stops, in fact it is like a busy airport. I wish I was one of those calm, zen like people who can meditate. I really love the Buddhist concept of mindfulness and bringing oneself into the present and the ordinary. I have been trying my best to practice this when i remember to and can pull my mind back down to earth. Perhaps this is why I have suddenly taken up gardening (this is probably  just an age thing though! ha ha) Here are a few ordinary moments from Jacki land. I love our house and our village!

Krystle and Jacques’ full of fun wedding at the Grand Oyster Box Hotel Part Two

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Jacques and Krystle got married at the Methodist Church in Durban North (see part one here) and then went on to celebrate in style at the Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga. I love shooting at this venue as not only is it only a ten minute drive home from my bed it is also incredibly beautiful. I am a big fan of beautiful spaces!! Throw a beautiful couple into the mix who also happen to be great fun and super sweet and I am one happy photographer! I know many photographers repeat the ol line “it was such a pleasure to work with these two” ….. and at the risk of sounding like a cheese parrot ……. “it was REALLY REALLY such a pleasure to work with these two”. Wishing you 3 a lifetime of happiness together. Thanks for picking me.

Krystle and Jacques’ full of fun wedding at the Grand Oyster Box Hotel Part One

Friday, March 18th, 2011

During the course of Krystle’s big day she must have said the word gorg (ie short for gorgeous) at least 100 times …. and that is exactly how she looked … Gorg! Her man was looking pretty nifty himself (what is it with hot Jacques by the way?) They make a great couple, full of fun and spunk with loads of interesting stories to tell. Their little daughter also joined in the celebrations and the pics of the 3 of them in the church may be some of my favorites of 2011 as i just want to squish them. So much of cuteness! As their wedding was such a huge affair I am going to be dividing it into 2 posts. Here we go with Part One. I will be adding all the credits in Part Two so do keep your eye out for the next installment.

H O L L Y – New shoot for soon to be released 24/7 Album

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

Holly is only 15 years old and she is already releasing her second album!!! The first time I heard her perform I actually got a lump in my throat and a wee tear in my eye. This girl can sing I tell you!!! Her music is an interesting mix of mature conscious lyrics, funky beats, beautiful melodies and African undertones all thrown together with her AMAZING singing voice.

But let me be upfront right now …. I haven’t actually heard her brand new soon to be released second album titled 24/7 and apparently I am in for a few surprises. I cannot wait to hear it. I am always highly envious of people with musical talent. I have the singing voice of a sick haededa.

A big shout out to my good friend Tamlyn Martin who styled this shoot, to the The Docklands Hotel for allowing us to use their premises, to my wonderful assistant/angel Natasha, to Viv for the coffee and finally to Holly for being fabulous!

Girly Tea at the St James on Venice

Friday, March 11th, 2011

My good friend Sunet is the GM at a relatively new boutique hotel on Venice Road on the Berea, Durban. A while back she organised us girls a high tea and I have been meaning to get onto processing these pics for forever but life happens and they got put onto the back burner. Seeing as it is Friday I thought I would quickly post these for the girls.

Featured on 3 international blog sites in 7 days. What a week!

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

I am one of those people who can be very hard on myself when it comes to my work, in fact I am probably my own worst critic. So it really was a huge honor for me this week to have been featured on 3 different international blog sites all of which have been voted as being top global wedding sites. Well …. I was actually featured on Rockn’roll bride last Thursday and its now Thursday again, and 7 days is a week right?! I just want to take this opportunity to thank my amazing clients as without them I wouldn’t have a job or a blog feature! I would also like to thank the ladies behind these blogs for featuring this work. Click on the blue bit below to read a bit more about them.

Sneak Peaks of Jacques and Krystle’s big day at The Oyster Box

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

I photographed the wedding of this divine couple at The Oyster Box on Saturday. Even though dear Krystle tried to corrupt me (private joke) she is just such a hun bun that I promised her a sneak peak before they jet off on honeymoon. The poor dears are going to the Maldives. Shame! Please have a few waves for me guys (oh and a few cocktails as well!) Thanks for picking me!

Featured on International Blog Rockn’Roll Bride Yaaaaay!

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Rockn’Roll Bride is one of my favorite wedding blogs as it’s so alternative and a bit crazy at times. This huge international blog is dedicated to weddings which show individualism, fun and flare. The blog doesn’t show too many engagement shoots so it was a great surprise that she chose to feature Dave and Candice’s E-Session. Thanks Kat, I feel very honored! Go check out the link and drop a comment if you feel like it! http://www.rocknrollbride.com/2011/03/candice-daves-musical-journey/
