Stylish Wedding at the Oyster Box – Gaelene and Richard

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

Gaelene and Richard definitely have one thing in common and that is their smoldering Mediterranean good looks. I am pretty sure that this combination will make some very gorgeous kids. Richard roots lie in Portugal, while Gaelene has Lebanese roots. They live in Joburg but came down to Durban to have their dream wedding at the Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga. People came from far and wide for their big day and Durban blessed them with sunny skies and a rain free day which seems quite unusual at the moment (what has been going on with this weather??) I just loved Gaelene’s beautiful wedding dress and the bird cage veil, she looked so stylish and Richard certainly scrubbed up well too! Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness and joy, so jealous of your honeymoon to Bali!!

A beach Engagement shoot – Introducing 2 Bluff surfers and their little surfer to be

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

A while back Casey sent me an email telling me about the fab waves they had been catching all day, and that’s when I knew exactly what to do for their engagement shoot. Casey and Duncan are beach people through and through and so it was only fitting that we shot on the beach in their home town, The Bluff. I have never been the best at getting up at the crack of dawn whether it be for work or for a surf but in this case it was so worth it, the sunrise was just magnificent. Later on in the morning their little grom Braden joined us for some fun and a few pics. Excuse the pun but Casey and Duncan are real salt of the earth folk …… which makes me super excited to photograph their big day in May.

My favorite couple of 2011 – Sneaky Peaks

Monday, April 18th, 2011

This Saturday was a very big day in our family, 2 of my most favorite people in the whole world got married. It rained and poured but it was wonderful and joyous and I am ecstatic for them both. Shane so proud of you, (you are still Dweeb though), Zo so glad to finally officially call you sister! Here are a few sneak peaks ….. I still have another wedding to edit before I get to this one but I just couldn’t resist editing these few. PS They got married at Umtamvuna River Lodge near Port Edward on the South Coast and it is honestly one of the nicest venues I have seen in a while …. think white sand beach and coco nut trees …… and  best of all they have bunnies!!

A Rainy Wet Wedding at Netherwood in the Natal Midlands- Michelle and Kosie’s big day

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

I had a feeling that Michelle and Kosie’s wedding would be one of those that just flowed beautifully, with gorgeous light and no stress. When we woke up in the Midlands that morning it seemed that my predictions were right as the sun was shining brightly with only a few beautiful fluffy white clouds in a clear blue sky. As the day ticked on, so the clouds built up and became more grey and angry and then the unthinkable happened. The heavens opened and it POURED! The electricity went off, the mist rolled in and Michelle and Kosie’s little one got sick. Instead of freaking out Michelle shrugged her shoulders and grinned through the downpours. The crazy weather allowed for some dramatic shots and at the end of the day the most important thing of all was that they were marrying each other amongst their favorite people. It did eventually stop raining for long enough for us to nip out for a quick creative shoot. The light wasn’t perfect but hey …..Michelle and Kosies’s warm love for each other made up for the lack of sun. (and a gaggle of geese “passed by” which made me very happy!)

Cape Town Snaps …….

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

I found myself with a free weekend recently and decided to book myself a ticket to Cape Town to catch up with friends, refresh my soul and inspire my spirit. I studied a Fine Art Degree at Michaelis, UCT many moons ago and the Cape still has the ability to bring out the art in me. Besides that, its important for me to get down there as often as I can to see my very special friends who live by the mountain. These friends have known me forever, seen me through the bad and the good, they have seen me fall, fly, laugh and cry. I am blessed to walk on this earth with you all. Love you very much. I also had the pleasure of meeting up with my long time penpal and fellow photographer Monica Dart and her close friend Jules Morgan. It’s always so great to make new friends, especially ones on the same wavelength! Here are some snaps from my trip. PS As you can see, my friends have been having babies!

Candice and Dave’s million dollar rockstar wedding at the Breakers Hotel Umhlanga. Part Two

Monday, April 4th, 2011

Welcome to Part Two of Candice and Dave’s Rockstar wedding! If you haven’t seen their engagement shoot or Part One head over immediately. Candice and Dave’s wedding was so very ‘them’. They achieved this by using themes which had meaning to them as a couple. Firstly, they live in Umhlanga, so they had their creative shoot and reception in their home town and included the icon of Umhlanga .. the big red and white lighthouse. They got engaged in Paris and therefore ran this theme through the wedding as well. A huge thanks to these two rockstars for picking me. PS The pic below is a good example of embracing crazy weather for the sake of a dramatic pic! Who says an armageddon like storm is all bad on your wedding day?
