Love in the Theatre – Martha + Sbu’s engagement shoot

Thursday, September 27th, 2012

When Martha and Sbu’s eyes met across a crowded nightclub their souls must have recognised something in each other that was more than just smoldering good looks. That fateful night marked the beginning of a love  that has lasted despite long distances. A love that is rooted in a  deep connection, a love that is going to be rooted in a marriage.

Martha and Sbu are both in medicine and they both work in hospitals. Martha is a pharmacist  in Canada while Sbu is a Doctor in Durban.

It seemed obvious to me that their engagement shoot had to be done in a hospital and luckily for us Sbu had connections!

Thanks to both of you for trusting my vision and for such a fun afternoon. Dressing in scrubs was certainly a first for Tash and I!!!

Oyster Box Wedding – Nicci + Pete

Friday, September 14th, 2012

I know there are many reasons why Pete fell in love with Nicci but I am pretty sure that one of them must have been because of her huge big blue eyes! After exchanging rings Nicci, Pete, friends and family headed to the gorgeous Oyster Box Hotel to celebrate in style. And celebrate they did!

You may remember these two from their engagement shoot which involved a miniature horse. Anyone who likes these little creatures as much as I do gets an instant tick of approval from me! If you haven’t seen it, go have a peek here.

Nicci and Pete you have been a joy to work with. Thanks for putting up with my crazy ideas and giving me the freedom to be creative. I have really enjoyed you guys and your wonderful families.

Guy Buttery – Character Portraits of a soulful musician

Friday, September 7th, 2012

Guy Buttery’s music makes me close my eyes and look inward. It’s dreamy, soulful, clean and clever. Watching him play is interesting, as he shuts down and moves into another land … a land where he is seems to be swept away by a creative force. If meditation had a dance, and if that dance had a sound, and if that sound had a playful joyful twist…..  then in my opinion, that sound might just be Guy’s music.

This was a warm up shoot … A shoot before the real shoot.

I hope I have done his talent and beautiful soul justice.

For all of my European readers Guy is on a tour with Nibs Vd Spuy and will be playing in Amsterdam, London, France and Italy over the next month. You can click here for more details or follow him on FB here. Guy is one of South Africa’s finest musical exports having won all sorts of awards but more importantly he plays the guitar (and a saw among other instruments!) like a maestro. You wont regret going to see him I can assure you!

Taking a moment to breathe

Thursday, September 6th, 2012

When the Dali Lama was asked what surprised him the most.

He said Man

Man

Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money.
Then he sacrifices his money to recuperate his health.
Then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present,
and as a result he does not live in the present or the future.
He lives as if he’s never going to die, and then he dies having never really lived.

I took some time off recently to breathe and to put back into what the past six months had taken out of me. My fiance Stu and I spent some time in the bush and up in the mountains. I spent many precious moments smelling the sound of the wind, hearing the smell of the sunshine, listening, breathing and being.

I put my camera down for the most part ….. sometimes as photographers we need to see all around us, to feel, to hear, to taste, to touch, to smell. To truly be in the moment rather than trying to construct the moment from that little rectangle. This is my belief anyway, this is what I did.

Here are a few pics I did take.

PS Have you noticed how you stop breathing when you click the shutter (or is that just me??)
