Cairn of Old Kilgobbin Wedding – Pierre + Jolene

I have known Pierre for a very long time. We have seen each other grow through many milestones and supported each other through life’s ups and downs. Pierre is one of those dear friends who I can always rely on to understand me. He is a good person, a great friend and someone who I cherish and respect. When Jolene walked into his life I noticed a distinct spring in his step, a joyful note in his voice and a sense of calmness that I had never seen in him before. He told me not long after meeting her that this would be the girl he would marry. When I met Jo I realised why. They truly are a perfect match! In fact it would be fair to say that Jo is the more chilled girl version of Pierre! Both of them are very tall and lean, so much so that their wedding invitation featured two entwined giraffes inviting guests to the wedding of the Tallies!

Pierre and Jo didn’t want a typical wedding and chose the Cairn of Old Kilgobbin in Dargle as their venue. They discarded so many typical wedding traditions and just kept the ones that suited them. They didn’t sweat the small stuff and were probably the most relaxed couple I have ever shot for. The wedding ceremony happened at 10 am at the Crabapple Chapel and the day eased along at an amble into drinks on the lawn followed by a delicious lunch, heartfelt speeches and finally an impromptu dance off in the rain. I was there both as photographer and guest and was given strict instructions to enjoy the wedding and not get too hectic with the photos! They wanted me to capture moments as opposed to loads of posed portraits and I hope I did justice to a day that was so filled with love and authenticity!

A big shout out to my assistant Liz who had a lot more second shooting pressure than usual. There are quite a few of her photos in this spread! Huge loves to you both. Thanks so much for picking me to capture your special day. I am beyond thrilled for you both!!!

And now for the credits and a few words from the bride

Sometimes the best plan is to not to really have a plan, well thats how we operate anyway. No order, no seating arrangement, no colour scheme, no fuss & no traditions. All we wanted was to celebrate our love and union with friends and family. Just soaking in the real reason of being together.

And when we reflect, thats is what our wedding day was. Lots of laughter, tears, honesty, feasting, joking, merriment, rolling down hills & dancing in the rain. It was our day, it was us and we did it our way!

We are deeply grateful to all our service providers for just going with the flow with us. We wouldn’t change a thing. And the ever so lovely, dearest and talented Jax… we would only ever pick you !!

Carl is the absolute greatest and dearest. We LOVE her! We would go and have a wedding meeting and spend hours chatting about dreams, travels, art, love, horses, relationships, family, life and laughter. We love Kilgobbin. It really is the most special and enchanting place.

Chapel:The Crab Apple Chappel – http://www.crabapple.co.za – Helen and Barend – info@crabapple.co.za

Helen and Barend are the sweetest couple and so kind and accommodating. As soon as we walked into the chapel it was a done deal. It really is like something from Lord of the Rings.

Decor:Carlene Bronner from The Cairn of Old Kilgobbin

We told Carl to do whatever she wanted to do with the venue, decor & flowers. We didn’t have a theme, style or colours. We just wanted her to go for it and be free in her creativity. It was perfect. She has an incredible talent and we wouldn’t have changed a thing.

Charelle is so lovely, warm-hearted, incredibly talented and professional. Totally recommend her, she’s just cool!

Brides Dress: Having plan A, B & C fail and three weeks to go with no dress, I approached my dear friends Emma & Lauren to see if they could help me out. Thank goodness they said yes! I had a clear picture in my mind of what I wanted and they just got it and they get me. Sometime friends are the best people to ask for help. This was their first creation and a real team effort of figuring it all out. And I’m totally going to wear it again… often 😉
