Maboneng Joburg Wedding – Tamarin + Robin

Tamarin and Robin are both creative souls who skip through life to a different beat and it therefore follows that they would imagine a beautiful wedding of the non-conventional variety. Robin has been a musician for over 16 years and Tam has a background in Fine Art. These days Robin works as an attorny and Tam works as a graphic designer, but it’s easy to see they both have the heart of an artist.

They got married at The Open in the Maboneng district of the Johannesburg CBD and then went on to celebrate with their closest friends at the Living Room. I am a bit of a plant nut, so much so that my Mom calls my apartment the micro climate, so I was naturally blown away by this magical rooftop bar as is literally cascades with plants and greenery which contrasts beautifully with the cityscape! But back to the wedding ……… There were no bridesmaids, no wedding cake, no throwing of garters or bouquets and no typical speeches. There was however an absolutely drop dead gorgeous dress although it wasn’t of the white strapless variety, there was a very touching ceremony, there was the most amazing food including a waffle stand and there was a whole lot of love and happiness!

Thanks so much for picking me guys. We thoroughly enjoyed working with you, and shooting in such a wonderful creative space was a really special experience!

And now for a few words from the bride ……

Robin and I love the city, so we really wanted to have a wedding in an urban environment. We were drawn to Maboneng because of the revamped industrial, arty spaces. The idea was to play up the contrast of a minimalist ceremony and a lush reception, while still highlighting the city landscape in both spaces. We had an incredible time – it was totally worth all the hard work. Robin and I would like to once again thank all the people who helped us, especially our parents, our siblings and our friends! Jax and Tash – you guys are amazing, we feel really privileged to have had you guys there!

I LOVE this about Joburg. It is full of amazing, creative spaces. And if you look past the traffic and the hectic pace, you can really get your ‘culture’ fix here which I do whenever I come. 2 weeks ago I was at 44 Stanley and I said to my brother, this would make an amazing wedding reception venue. Same goes for Maboneng and the Newtown Precinct. The design & architecture talent in Joburg is phenomenal. I love that someone has done this in the city at last; it was crying out to be used in this way.
