From America to Armania – My thoughts on Going Viral!

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012

On the 29th of September 2012 I photographed Emma and Murray’s wedding at Netherwood in the Natal Midlands. During the service I stood too close to a candle and my hair caught alight. It could have ended badly but it didn’t …… I just patted out the flames and carried on shooting. It was rather funny and certainly a wedding that I will never ever forget !!! Knowing full well that there were heaps of people in the audience with cellphones and recording devices as well as a videographer  I knew that this incident would hit the internet. I am not afraid to have a good laugh at myself and asked the videographer and my friend Mark Thompson from Beyond Measure Productions if I could publish the few seconds of footage that he got of the whole thing on my blog! You can check out the video as well as what I wrote here.

I didn’t really think about it again ….. life happened … I was in Joburg and then Mozambique …. I got ill with flu and suddenly I was in the UK and then Antigua in the Caribbean and then back to the UK. Things were quite busy and I wasn’t online much.

But while I was on my travels I started receiving all sorts of messages from people from all over the world to tell me that they had seen the video  …..

Then a friend emailed me from Oz to say they saw me on the news ….. the news … What?????

The news?????????????????

Published Work – The Fairlady Bride, Wedding Inspirations and the Umhlanga Magazine

Monday, December 3rd, 2012

It’s always so exciting for me as a photographer to see my images in print and even more exciting to see my pretty brides staring at me from a magazine! I should have blogged these ages ago but things have been really busy ….

In the last few months Claire and Dale’s Oyster Box wedding was published in both the FairLady Bridal Magazine and the Umhlanga Magazine. The Fair Lady Bridal mag only comes out once a year so it was quite an  honor to have my photos appear in their Real Weddings Section. The Umhlanga Mag wrote a story about Dream weddings in Umhlanga and featured both Claire and Dale’s Oyster Box wedding and Krystle and Jacques Oyster Box wedding. Last but not least Shane and Laurie’s amazing Hippy Wedding which I photographed in Goa, India this year was published in Wedding Inspirations magazine! Yaaaaay!!!

Evolve hair makes the front cover of the Good Life Mag

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

Everyone who follows my blog will know about the best hairdresser in Durban AKA Mr Drew Christie and his Evolve team. A while back they entered the South African Salon of the year and they came second which is a huge achievement. I am really proud of the team Drew, Norman, Jules, Grant, Spin and all of the models for flying Durban’s flag way up high. A couple of weeks before the big competition day the clever hair stylists did a practice run and we took some pics. These pics were published in the Lifestyle section of the Mercury which is called the Good Life. I can honestly say that Drew is a hair-artist  rather than a hairdresser …… his vision is unbelievable ! Here are the spreads from the Good Life as well as a few originals. What a clever friend I have!!!! If you are a in need of a hairdresser you can contact Drew on 082 335 4625. Some of these amazing dresses were made by Grant of Her clothing. You can check out his talent here. His clothes are very gorgeous but his incredible illustrations and prints blow me away. Special mention also to three really great make up artists Jules Ruby, Charelle and Violent who worked also on the project. I really rate all of these ladies, if you are in a need of a make up artist check the credits at the end.

Jacki Bruniquel in The Umhlanga Magazine – Press Feature

Thursday, November 22nd, 2012

I came home from our Antigua/ UK trip to a mountain of mail, and included in all of that was a brown envelope containing a copy of the latest Umhlanga magazine. Storm Catterick recently wrote an article about me titled “Photographers to look out for” – 6 whole spreads and the front cover. Wow I am honored!

Here are her words as well as pics of the pages.

There’s something about a good photograph that captures the imagination and enchants the eye, whether it’s because it’s a memory that will be forever frozen in time, or the fact that you can capture the most precious moments in someone’s life!

I have always envied the way in which photographers view life – how they can find something aesthetically pleasing in even the most insignificant or less-than-attractive thing. We are so blessed in our small town to have some truly amazing photographers here, all unique and different in their own way, but with one common underlying factor – they are all brilliant!

With this in mind, we decided that during the next couple of months we would profile some of Umhlanga’s best photographers who we think you should look out for when capturing that next special moment.

In our first edition we are profiling Jacki Bruniquel, a photographer who is known for her unique style and honest way of capturing memories in her photographs. Jacki is also an accomplished artist, something which enables her to take photography to an exceptional level. With her incredible knack for capturing wedding memories she is fast gaining the reputation for being one of South Africa’s most creative wedding photographers. Jacki Bruniquel is this month’s local photographer to look out for!

Featured on Love Olio – Directory of the Most Creative Wedding Photographers in the World

Monday, June 20th, 2011

I was really very delighted and flattered to receive an email saying “We love your photography and we would like to feature your work on loveolio.com“. Shooow, what an honor. Love Olio is a really amazing website and directory of the worlds most creative wedding photographers. The site features some of my favorite photographers like Marianne Taylor from the UK and Elizabeth Messina from the States so I do feel very honored. The great thing about this site is that photographers don’t have to pay to be listed like so many of these directories which claim to feature the best photographers in the world. Oh I nearly forgot my good friend from Cape Town Monica Dart is also listed.

I pinched the following text off their site to give you an idea of what they do.

  1. Showcase wedding and engagement photography from the most creative and groundbreaking wedding photographers in the world
  2. Connect brides and grooms with talented wedding photographers in their area
  3. Browse for inspirational décor and design ideas from real weddings

We hand select and feature images from hundreds of wedding photographer’s blogs to showcase their current work. The images can be sorted by location, as well as by the studio’s name, making it easier for brides and grooms to find wedding photographers in their area.

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

I was really super chuffed that Kat from Rockn’Roll Bride featured Candice and Dave’s engagement shoot and wedding. Rockn’Roll Bride has just been named as the number one Wedding Blogsite in the UK so it really is a huge honor! Not surprising though with such super cool “subjects”. Love you Candice and Dave!

I was very honored to be a featured photographer in a recent article the Get It magazine wrote on current wedding trends. I am sure you will recognise my pics. The article featured a number of people who are at the top of their game in the local wedding industry and asked each person to give wedding tips relating to their particular field. The other photographer featured is the super lovely and very talented Samantha Maber who also happens to be a good friend. Noreen Swartz from Timeless weddings was also included. Noreen and I have worked together a few times and I cannot recommend her enough as a wedding planner.

I was actually featured on Rockn’roll bride last Thursday and its now Thursday again, and 7 days is a week right?! I just want to take this opportunity to thank my amazing clients as without them I wouldn’t have a job or a blog feature! I would also like to thank the ladies behind these blogs for featuring this work. Click on the blue bit below to read a bit more about them.

Featured on International Blog Rockn’Roll Bride Yaaaaay!

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Rockn’Roll Bride is one of my favorite wedding blogs as it’s so alternative and a bit crazy at times. This huge international blog is dedicated to weddings which show individualism, fun and flare. The blog doesn’t show too many engagement shoots so it was a great surprise that she chose to feature Dave and Candice’s E-Session. Thanks Kat, I feel very honored! Go check out the link and drop a comment if you feel like it! http://www.rocknrollbride.com/2011/03/candice-daves-musical-journey/
