Calderwood Hall Midlands Wedding – Hayley + Mitchell

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

Hayley or rather Doctor Hayley is one heck of an inspiring women! Anyone who has completed a Doctorate and run the comrades gets a serious bow from me! Did I mention that she also planned her whole wedding whilst doing her Doctorate? Yes Endurance could be used as her middle name but there must be a bit of madness thrown in there too! Only kidding! Besides all of that, Hayley is sweet as pie, she has such a lovely gentle nature and the prettiest eyes (which she definitely gets from her Mom). I can see why Mitchell is so smitten with her!

The two of them make a wonderful, laid back, friendly couple and it truly was a pleasure photographing their big day at Calderwood Hall in the Midlands. Thanks guys for picking me!!!

Plantations Port Elizabeth Wedding with a Vera Wang Gown – Kat + Garrick

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

Sometimes bad things happen to good people, that is just life. What is important is the way that we overcome obstacles and move forward. So many things went wrong before Kat and Garrick’s big day. Kat got an awful flu and was women down and bed ridden on the days leading up to their nuptials. Her photographer (that’s me) caught this flu and was feeling pretty deathly on the wedding day. Her GORGEOUS Vera Wang gown tore on the morning of the wedding whilst she was running to give her Gran a kiss. This meant that they had to call in a friend to help sew and sort out which meant she was rather (ie 2 hours) late for the ceremony.

This amazing twosome could have got in a tizz and turned ugly but both of them took it in their stride and accepted that “it is what it is”. After the “big rip” when everyone was fussing, stressing and all emotional over the dress Kat burst into song. Her beautiful powerful voice replaced all the bad energy with huge smiles and the next thing we knew the ring was on her finger and everyone was dancing joyfully under the twinkling fairy lights.

The way that Kat and Garrick are together is wonderful. I believe that if they handle life with as much grace as they handled their wedding day … they will be a super strong couple. (they already are!)

Oh .. . they got married at The Plantation in Port Elizabeth and besides all the silly drama it was wonderful. Click here to see their engagement shoot

Kat and Garrick thanks for picking me – I have absolutely loved working with you and getting to know you. You are special souls!!!

Palm Dune Blythedale Beach Wedding – Taryn + Judd

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Taryn and Judd are two creative souls who met at work.  Judd being the shy type admired Taryn from a distance and they got to know each other slowly. After a while of secretly fancying each other Taryn eventually made the first move. They have been together for six and a half years since then!

Judd proposed on a tropical island so it was only fitting that they got married at the very tropical beach venue Palm Dune at Blythedale. The weather gods smiled down on them, close friends and family came from all over to celebrate, there was lots of dancing and smiles all around!

Thanks for picking me … it was great working with you!

Black and pink Netherwood Wedding – Abby + Grant

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

I have always loved working with people who aren’t afraid to be themselves. Abby definitely fits that mould. She loves big hair and bling and this was translated into so many facets of their wedding! She wore a huge princess dress, sparkly shoes and there were bouffants all round. Grant who prefers clean lines and simplicity  looked super stylish in that perfectly tailored suit!

They got married at Netherwood with 250 friends and family who they spoilt rotten with delicious wine, caramel vodka, Johnny Walker Black and gorgeous wedding favors. There were so many special moments on their big day, there was so much energy in the air and damn it was one heck of a party. (must have been the bottles of caramel vodka on each table!)

Laid back Hatchery Wedding – Natalie + Mike

Tuesday, April 17th, 2012

The first time I met Natalie she brought me a MASSIVE bunch of country bumpkin flowers. On our second meeting I got to meet Mike and they brought along a bottle of champagne and a punnet of strawberries!  When they found stretch tent hire to be a bit too pricey for their liking, they bought their own. They have now started a little stretch tent hire business with affordable rates on the side (see their details at the end)

They are just those kind of people. And honestly Nats has the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. Flip I have the best clients! I can’t even class these two as clients anymore they are now friends!

Natalie and Mike met whilst Mike was stranded alone in a non 4×4 bakkie on a sand road on the way to Ponto, Mozambique. Natalie and friend rode up alongside him and came to his rescue. The rest is history. A love story. A wonderful soulful connection. A beautiful child. And then a wedding at the Hatchery which is in Zululand near Amatikulu.

It was wonderful.

I will say it again ……. I have the best clients! Thanks guys for picking me!!!

Hippy Wedding at Dreamcatchers, Palolem, Goa, India – Shane + Laurie

Monday, March 26th, 2012

I don’t even know where to start here. How do I even BEGIN to explain what a dream it was to photograph a wedding in India? Let alone the wedding of two of the most free spirited special souls I know. No matter how hard I try, my words just cannot sufficiently encapsulate the feelings which I hold when thinking back to this magical time.

India is a photographers heaven. One virtually has to point a camera and click and out comes a great photo. Besides the exoticness and the excitement of a wedding abroad, the simple fact is, it’s not the venue that makes a wedding. It’s the people. Laurie and Shane are such a beautiful couple who have followed their dreams, traveled and lived all over the world, they give the best hugs and spread laughter and love wherever they go. Everyone that came to their wedding loved them enough to trek across the world for them. Can you imagine the atmosphere? Can you imagine the love?

In a nutshell they got married on a beach in Goa and had their reception at Dreamcatchers Resort in Palolem with their closest friends and family. But there was just so much more then that …….. and here are the pictures I took. Thanks guys for picking me. I am still speechless. Love you both dearly.

Clarens Farmyard wedding at St Fort – Ronel + Jannie

Monday, March 12th, 2012

When Ronel first approached me about photographing their wedding at St Fort in Clarens she said “I love music and I love playing the piano. In Ireland last year I couldn’t travel with the piano so I bought myself a violin and taught myself to play;  my Irish roommate and I are still friends, so I  couldn’t have been that bad. I also like painting, drinking wine, growing a veggie garden and sleeping after a nightshift!” I knew then that she was my kind of bride! I also knew that the wedding would be a cracker as Clarens is just such a gorgeous place to shoot.

You may recognise Ronel’s other half Jannie Du Plessis. Jannie is a well known Springbok rugby player who currently plays for the Natal Sharks. At a glance I would have never put this arty girl together with a rugby player but they actually have so much in common. Both of them are doctors, both of them come from farming backgrounds and have a deep connection with the earth and nature, both of them are very family orientated and both of them are extremely friendly, funny and fun loving. On their wedding invites they wrote “Ons trou want ons is absoluut mal oor mekaar”, for those of you who don’t understand Afrikaans this means “We are getting married as we are absolutely mad about each other”. And that pretty much sums it all up!

Thanks guys for picking me. We loved our time with you!

PS The pics of Jannie in non wedding gear were taken on his family farm which he is very proud of. (Yes he is a rugby player, a doctor and a farmer!) As a person who tends to kill potplants I was mightily impressed with their bean plantation!

Forest Themed Netherwood Wedding – Isa + Beyers

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

We still have quite a bit of time on our hands before 2012 is over but I am convinced that Isa and Beyer’s Netherwood wedding will still be party of the year when 2013 rolls in! It was a fun wedding with lots of laughter and langarming!! (in case you don’t know what that is the langarm is, it’s a particular dance which is very much part of Afrikaans culture) Afrikaans boys (well at this wedding anyway) sure do know how to dance!!!!!!!!!! Love it!

The décor just blew me away too. Netherwood was filled with orchids for their big day which remind me of my late Grandpa and are very special to me. Besides the gorgeous orchids, the wedding had a rustic forest theme, incredible food, great music and wonderful vibrant guests. Beyers and Isa were just so easy to work with too. Without being a total gush … it was a photographers dream wedding to shoot. I am touching wood and feeling very lucky as all the weddings I have shot this year have been that way!

Thanks guys for picking me, we loved shooting your special day

Wedding in Goa – One from yesterday

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Yesterday was truly one of the most amazing days of my life …. I photographed the wedding of two wonderful souls in India. Shane and Laurie got married in Goa and it was magical. This photo sums up the whole day.  It also sums up Shane and Laurie, two free spirited special people whizzing through this journey we call life. I think it might be just be one of my most favorite pics ever.
