St Regis Hotel Mauritius Wedding – Mayling + Adam

Mayling and Adam got married on a white sand beach on the romantic island of Mauritius amongst their loved ones who had flown in from all four corners of the earth! The St Regis Hotel of La Morne was the incredible setting for this dreamy affair.

Mauritius is one of those picture perfect post card places where people go to honeymoon. All of those island clichés are plentiful and abundant on this Indian Ocean Island. Just think swishing palm trees, frangipanis, crystal clear ocean, cocktails with umbrellas and pristine beaches. Mayling was born in Mauritius so this island is more than just a holiday destination for her. A piece of her heart lives there.

When the big day arrived ominous weather threatened the outdoor ceremony but in the end only light sprinkles of rain dusted the island here and there, and then cleared while Mayling and Adam said their vows to each other in a fairytale ceremony. Afterwards we went off to take pics and I smiled to myself as I distinctly remember Mayling and Adam telling me they weren’t the romantic dreamy types who would be doing “bendy back brides” and staring into each other’s eyes on their wedding day But on this most romantic of beaches with the sun dipping into the sea and turning everything pink it was hard to get them to take their eyes off each other!

I have always been a sucker for coconut trees and aqua water so to say this was a photographer’s dream assignment would be an under-statement. Besides all the excitement of a destination wedding, working with Mayling and Adam has been a treat. Both of them are so friendly and down to earth but I have to make special mention of Mayling’s wonderful sense of humor. Reading her emails over the past year has been a joy! Thanks for picking me guys! What a dream come true!

And now for a few words from the bride and groom

Mauritius was all of a sentimental, practical and preferred location for our wedding. Sentimental because Mayling’s parents met there and Mayling was born there. Practical because it was between Mayling’s childhood country South Africa and Adam’s Australia. Doubly practical because friends and family from all over the world (including the far flung Australians) could get there easily … (ok with exception for one guest from Bluefields, Virgina, USA). Preferred because (Adam’s point) it was an exotic tropical island, providing additional incentives to our guests to make the trip and turn it into a holiday to remember. As much as we were looking forward to binding our lives together, we were also so excited to have everyone special to us come together – be with us and meet each other. Of course we wanted everything to be perfect but as people with chaotic lives and admittedly, little sense of decor, simple was our preferred method and style with love, friendship and laughter to take care of everything else. For all the (inevitable) stress in the preparation, the day itself was incredible and exceeded our wildest imaginations. For all our warnings to dear Jacki that we were not the gooey types, we were shamelessly doey eyed… and can join the cookie cutter club and attest that it was without doubt the best day of our lives!

What a beautiful couple and what an exquisite collection of images they have to remember their wedding day. I could almost hear the waves and feel the sand between my toes! Now, where did I put my passport – time to book an island holiday!

Jacki, you are so incredibly talented. What a special gift you have and what a special gift to be able to capture something so beautiful and important to a person and then give it to them. You have almost stopped time. You have caught the essence of May and Adam and their day.

Well done Jacki, your work is truly inspirational. You really have an eye for details and moments. I love the image of the two of them inside the doorway. Excellent images you created in Mauritius for this couple!
