I met Bhavika a few years back at the Buddhist Retreat Centre in Ixopo. We got chatting over our vegetarian dinner, and I remember thinking, “This is a lady I could be friends with.”
Bhavika is an anaesthetist in Durban, and besides putting people to sleep, she has an interest in mental health and is currently setting up a clinic to help people with depression. Bhav is a deep soul with an adventurous spirit. She loves to laugh and to travel, and one of her favourite memories is walking down the streets of New York with her Burberry jacket.
We made this set of portraits in Durban on my recent visit. Our afternoon started with some very classic headshots and personal branding portraits. We then headed into the studio to create something that represented the empowered, courageous woman who has traveled all over the world. We used a carpet she bought in Turkey as a backdrop, and later I convinced her to get into the pool. She is an Aquarian and has a symbolic relationship with water, so I am glad she braved the stormy weather as the image of her floating is probably my favourite.
When I asked her why she decided to invest in this experience, she said that she is so used to being in the background, and now that she is opening the clinic, it is her time to step into the light and be seen.
If you’ve been hanging in the shadows and know deep down that it is time for you to be seen in your best light, get in touch. I would love to include you in my 40-ish & Flourishing Portrait experience. I have opened my diary up for 40 women to be a part of this over the next 12 months.
