Umdloti couple shoot – Lauren + Tom

Umdloti couple shoot – Lauren + Tom

Lauren and Tom celebrated their two year wedding anniversary yesterday. To remember this very special time in their lives they organised a couple session with me. The idea was to do a very sweet and simple shoot on the beach in their home town of Umdloti. Unfortunately the weather had other plans and as we got to the beach a gale force wind started up of epic proportions. I am not afraid of bad weather when it comes to photography but in this case it just wasn’t working so I had to come up with plan B. And my plan B was to look toward the light ……

Did you take a ladder with you to get that shot?

Did you take a ladder with you to get that shot?

I saw your latest blog post (AMAZING) and I’ve just got to ask: did you take a ladder with you on the bridal party shoot? Or were you just lucky enough that there were something for you to stand on?

Sorry, I’m just curious

Again, well done with taking amazing photos every single time. Your work amazes me so much.

I always push myself to create images that I haven’t been done before when shooting a wedding. Sometimes this takes planning and sometimes this happens spontaneously!

I arrived at Netherwood the day before Chantel and Brett’s big day and noticed the two different colour fields whilst doing a location scout. I also noticed that the sun was going down behind the two different fields and realized that I would need a point of elevation in order to reduce flare and truly get a sense of the fields and the different textures. I liked the idea of putting girls on one side boys on the other … It was really just a quirky take on men and women being in different “worlds”. Nothing too serious though, just a bit of fun.

In order to make the shot happen I needed a tall ladder and so I asked the wonderful folk at Netherwood if I could borrow one. I then asked a very obliging boyfriend of one of the bridesmaids to help us transport and carry the ladder on the day.

It was a mission! But in the end I got a different angle and a different photo.

Hope that answers your question, thanks for the kind words and for getting in touch!!!

Best of Weddings 2012

Best of Weddings 2012

On New Years day 2013 I woke up in the mountains and watched two swallows flying in and out of their perfectly constructed mud nest in the verandah roof.  I sat there for ages watching, thinking and reflecting.

My plan for New Years Eve was to party with all of my good friends from school days. We had all gone up to the Drakensberg for the weekend and had planned a big feast followed by champagne, dancing and fun. New Years eve morning rolled in and I woke up with a horrible tummy bug and proceeded to spend the next 24 hours in bed!

My plan didn’t work out but waking up on New Years day hangover free and feeling a lot better gave me the chance to quietly give thanks for the blessings of 2012.

2012 was very good to Jacki Bruniquel Art and Photography. She took us from the Karoo to the Caribbean. Clients ranged from a Stay at home Mom to a Springbok rugby player, from an Accountant to an Architect to an Actress. We photographed a wedding in India. We photographed weddings on farmyards, in gardens, in fancy hotels and in the bush. Some weddings were grand, some were humble.

Every one of them was different and in every one of them there is a common thread.

That common thread is the thread of Love.

I love making pictures about love. I love making photos of the human narrative. I love finding that little thing that makes everyone unique in his or her own way and making pictures about that.

Here is my personal best wedding work of 2012.

Huge thanks to all of my clients for believing in me, for picking me and for becoming part of what was a hugely special year for me.

Thanks also my amazing assistant Tash. She is the hardest-working, loveliest human ever and I owe her more than words could ever express.

Love in the Theatre – Martha + Sbu's engagement shoot

Love in the Theatre – Martha + Sbu's engagement shoot

When Martha and Sbu’s eyes met across a crowded nightclub their souls must have recognised something in each other that was more than just smoldering good looks. That fateful night marked the beginning of a love  that has lasted despite long distances. A love that is rooted in a  deep connection, a love that is going to be rooted in a marriage.

Martha and Sbu are both in medicine and they both work in hospitals. Martha is a pharmacist  in Canada while Sbu is a Doctor in Durban.

It seemed obvious to me that their engagement shoot had to be done in a hospital.

Thanks to both of you for trusting my vision!
