Landi’s Horse Portraits – Ginger + Anisa
Landi is a very talented photographer who loves to travel, go on grand adventures, collect precious stones, immerse herself in nature, hike up mountains and get on a horse. I should also mention that she has zero abilities in a kitchen and doesn’t plan on changing this any time soon! She is a quirky soul with a lot of feisty in her. Dynamite comes in small packages, so they say! So when those horse thieves stole her ponies they had no idea who they were messing with!
But I am going a bit fast here ……… so let me take you back a bit ……
Landi grew up on a farm outside of Bloemfontein and much of her childhood was spent galloping bareback around the fields and climbing the mountains on her cheeky horse named Ginger. These two used to wake up before the crack of dawn and head out to explore the landscape, they also loved swimming and playing in the dam. To have a life-long bond with a horse like this is rare indeed, and an absolute privilege.
Anisa was born on the farm and is now Gingers sidekick. They both adore Landi, especially when she gives them their favourite snack, brown bread!
Whilst Landi was in Cape Town recovering from an operation she got news that her two horses had disappeared off the farm. Unfortunately horses are often stolen in this area and taken into Lesotho where they are used in bush racing or as work horses. Stock theft is a common problem and most people don’t get their animals back. But not Landi!! This girl used every resource she had, from social media campaigns to hiring a private investigator, to offering rewards. Most people said it would be impossible to find them again but she didn’t give up!
And then ……
One day she got word that her horses had been found! And she went all the way to Lesotho to fetch them!
We made these horse portraits not long after they returned to the farm as a celebration of their lives together in the place they all love. These are my favorites.
