Marine Maternity – Shane and Zo

Marine Maternity – Shane and Zo

My brother Shane and his  beautiful wife Zo, are people of the sea. They love the sound of the ocean, the thrill of a wave, the feel of sand between their toes and the ebb and flow of the tides. In a few weeks time they will be having a little mermaid and we are so excited for her arrival!

Love in the Theatre – Martha + Sbu's engagement shoot

Love in the Theatre – Martha + Sbu's engagement shoot

When Martha and Sbu’s eyes met across a crowded nightclub their souls must have recognised something in each other that was more than just smoldering good looks. That fateful night marked the beginning of a love  that has lasted despite long distances. A love that is rooted in a  deep connection, a love that is going to be rooted in a marriage.

Martha and Sbu are both in medicine and they both work in hospitals. Martha is a pharmacist  in Canada while Sbu is a Doctor in Durban.

It seemed obvious to me that their engagement shoot had to be done in a hospital.

Thanks to both of you for trusting my vision!

Photographing from a different angle – Jax in action

Photographing from a different angle – Jax in action

In order to see things from a different perspective you need to change your point of view! I think this statement applies to most aspects of life, particularly our opinions. From a photography perspective changing angles is vital to creating visually interesting work.

This generally means getting a bit dirty, giving yourself a stiff neck, possibly getting wet, or stood on … but at the end of the day I think it’s worth it when you get that cracker shot! I am a very active photographer and I literally don’t stop when I am working. I strive to keep looking for new angles or new ways of seeing things so I am always climbing on top of things, lying on the floor, jumping behind things …. here are the pics to prove it and I am sure all my clients will be about to vouch for my crazy antics (and the fact that I sometimes lose my shoes on the way!)

Cape St Francis Engagement Shoot – Kat + Garrick

Cape St Francis Engagement Shoot – Kat + Garrick

I have always felt like my soul has had a good scrub after a few days in Cape St Francis. It’s my special place, my soul place .. the place with the unique fynbos smell that sends my mind, body and spirit into instant relax mode. Cape St Francis also known as Seal Point also happens to be one of my favorite waves in the world. So …. when Garrick contacted me about shooting their wedding in PE my mind immediately thought about the fact that PE is just an hour away from Seals and that I would naturally have to extend my stay by a day or two. Then I discovered that Garrick is a surfer and that he asked Kat to marry him in St Francis Bay and that was that! Kat and Garrick’s engagement shoot just had to be done there. I have always wanted to do a portrait shoot down in that part of the world and they were the perfect couple for it.

Thanks to the two of you for being the perfect couple for this shoot!!! (that is really the highest compliment from me by the way) We loved our time with you and we loved our time in Seals! Happy Honeymooning!

PS If you are looking for a well priced place to stay in Seals contact Hilary on 083 216 47 44  www.wheretostay.co.za/sandown Their self catering flats have a great view and are a stone throw from the beach.

Jax's favorite Wedding pics of 2011

Jax's favorite Wedding pics of 2011

I just cannot believe that 2011 is nearly over!! Has anyone else out there noticed how ridiculously fast this year has gone??? It’s been a huge year for me on so many levels. I broke down with burn out at the beginning of the year, picked myself back up again. I stopped drinking alcohol for 9 months which gave birth to the fact that I am no longer a smoker. I stopped biting my nails. I traveled to Madagascar and Hong Kong. I got engaged with Stu. And I worked. I worked alot.

Looking through a years worth of images is quite a reflective process. Going through all of these I am floored by just how lucky I am to do a job that I love so very much. More so, I realise how incredibly lucky I am to have such awesome clients. I wouldn’t have been able to make these pictures without wonderful clients!!!

2012 promises to be a cracker. We start the year off with a wedding in the Karoo which I am really excited about, then we are back at Netherwood which is one of my favorite venues. After that we head up to Clarens to photograph the wedding of a Springbok rugby player and his lovely lady and then we jet off to India for a wedding in Goa (yaaaaaaay!!!) And that is all before the mid February!  How exciting!

Thanks to everyone for everything and thanks to my friends and family  for not disowning me due to my workaholic tendencies!!! (that’s the problem with doing a job you love … sometimes its hard to stop doing it!!!)
