The Best Of: The Oyster Box Hotel Weddings

A while back the marketing ladies from The Oyster Box Hotel asked me if I would be open to them using some of my imagery on their website. This beautiful Umhlanga hotel is one of my favourite places to photograph weddings in the whole of South Africa so I was more than happy to comply! I have shot A LOT of weddings at The Oyster Box during all my many years of being a wedding photographer and whilst gathering the images together I realised it would make a fabulous celebratory blog post!

This luxury five star hotel is a prime South African wedding destination for so many reasons! It overlooks a pristine beach housing the iconic Umhlanga lighthouse, the decor in the hotel is breathtaking which for an artist like me is so inspirational, the service is through the charts, the food is absolutely delicious and the staff are all so friendly. If you are a couple who are looking for a classy wedding by the beach without the beach sand, this may be the venue for you!

I got a bit teary looking through all of these pics as I realised how many beautiful moments and special people I have photographed over the years in this gorgeous hotel. Every couple different, every couple with their own story, every couple open and willing to allow me into a momentous milestone in their life to tell their narrative with my camera. I have also worked with some amazing suppliers whom I will mention at the end of this post!

Cape St Francis Engagement Shoot – Kat + Garrick

Cape St Francis Engagement Shoot – Kat + Garrick

I have always felt like my soul has had a good scrub after a few days in Cape St Francis. It’s my special place, my soul place .. the place with the unique fynbos smell that sends my mind, body and spirit into instant relax mode. Cape St Francis also known as Seal Point also happens to be one of my favorite waves in the world. So …. when Garrick contacted me about shooting their wedding in PE my mind immediately thought about the fact that PE is just an hour away from Seals and that I would naturally have to extend my stay by a day or two. Then I discovered that Garrick is a surfer and that he asked Kat to marry him in St Francis Bay and that was that! Kat and Garrick’s engagement shoot just had to be done there. I have always wanted to do a portrait shoot down in that part of the world and they were the perfect couple for it.

Thanks to the two of you for being the perfect couple for this shoot!!! (that is really the highest compliment from me by the way) We loved our time with you and we loved our time in Seals! Happy Honeymooning!

PS If you are looking for a well priced place to stay in Seals contact Hilary on 083 216 47 44  www.wheretostay.co.za/sandown Their self catering flats have a great view and are a stone throw from the beach.

Top Billing Feature in this months issue.

Top Billing Feature in this months issue.

Top Billing Magazine has included a small feature on me in their “What’s Hot” section in the November edition. Not that long ago one of my ex students, Taetime DeVilliers asked me to pose for a portrait for her final year portfolio and this very image made it into the magazine. Well done Taetim! Click on “View Whole Post” to read the story.

The insert reads as follows

No Stranger to Top Billing readers, this super-talented, KwaZulu-Natal based artist continues to inspire us. An artist and photographer, Jacki’s pictures capture the soul of people around the country, offering a glimpse into their lives, weddings and families. This Michealis graduate draws her photographic inspiration and energy from her travels around the world: she’s hiked the Himalayas, surfed in Indonesia and soaked up Europe’s culture and art. Her paintings have captured attention countrywide for many years, but photography has captured her heart and is the direction she’ll now be travelling in. “Jacki has the ability to capture priceless moments that you don’t even think about till you have seen the actual photos”, says Boshoff van der Merwe, a family portrait client. View Jacki’s portfolio on www.jackibruniquel.com”

You can see the portrait they used below photographed by Taetim DeVilliers. I have already shown this on my blog but just in case you didn’t see that post … here it is again. I am very proud of Tae!
