Yoga Branding Shoot in Bali – Sharni Quinn

Yoga Branding Shoot in Bali – Sharni Quinn

Have you ever met someone and known that you will be friends in an instant? When I met Sharni Quinn for the first time it was like we had known each other for eons, past lives even! Sharni and I first connected at the Barefoot Luxe Retreat which is a business womens retreat run by Chanelle Segerius Bruce. I had been invited to speak at the Fearless Photographers Conference in Germany a couple of months after the retreat and was deciding whether to stay on in Europe for a week, or go to Bali and have a proper break. Sharni was literally about to move to Bali and so I asked her advice. Her answer was “Choose Bali – Always choose Bali!”

From that moment on we became great friends!

Sharni is a yoga instructor, an author, a teacher, a coach and an entrepreneur. She has a laugh which lights up a room and a spirit which is as free as a bird. Her mission in life is to help women find their bliss which she does via her 1:1 and online coaching If you are lucky enough to attend a yoga class with her I’m sure you will remember it for a long time to come! She doesn’t just teach asanas, she teaches you how to connect with your heart and higher self.

We have a lot in common, we both love beautiful things, meditation, yoga, beaches, swimming, and a good dance. Sharni has an adventurous spirit like me, and also has the tendency to push herself to the max which resulted in her going through burn out just like I did. Both of us have started businesses from scratch, traveled the world, and are on a mission to grow, learn and help other people find their truth. We just get each other! This made her the perfect travel companion and I can safely say that she was like an angel on my trip! We whizzed around on scooters, saluted the sun at the Yoga Barn, swam under waterfalls, ate all delicious vegan food, got massages, read our angel cards, drank bintangs on the beach and danced in circles in Ubudia. It was a very special time and one that will sit fuzzily in my heart till the end of my days!

I gifted her with a personal branding shoot for her business and so whilst I was with her in Bali she was my muse! We wanted these images to be bright and sunny just like her. We took these photos in Ubud, Nusa Lembongaan, Ceningan island and Nusa Penida and it was a great exercise for me to remember how to work simply. I had to use minimal gear as our transport was a scooter which meant no external lighting and no assistant! It was a challenge but it also made me fall in love with photography all over again!.

Bali Family Portrait Shoot – The Down's

Bali Family Portrait Shoot – The Down's

Amy and I first met in the UK when I was just a 22 year old newly graduated fine art student still wet behind the ears. We lived together in a crummy semi-detached house in Kentish town with a bunch of other Antipodeans. In the years that followed we became very close. Aims saw me through various bar jobs, broken hearts and bouts of home sickness. We also danced the night away on numerous London dance-floors, spent time doing yoga in the Himalayas and sailed around the Whitsunday islands. I was there when she first met Brad and we all became a tight knit family during those London days. As with most stories, chapters come to a close, and we went home to our different continents and didn’t see each other for over ten years. In that decade apart we went on different journey’s and walked on different paths but the Down’s remained deeply entrenched in my heart.

September 2014 arrived and we found ourselves in Bali at the same time! To me, the sign of a soulful true friendship is one where years can pass and it is easy to pick up where you left off. Amy and Brad I do believe you are my soulmates and although we may live in different places our hearts will always be connected. Thank you for for your generosity and for the time that you gave me. I love you both dearly and it was so special to meet Harrison and Ava.

Balian Beach – Bali

Balian Beach – Bali

Balian is a tiny seaside village on the Western side of Bali which is mainly frequented by surfers, yogis and locals (some of whom are also sufers and yogis!). There are no Bintang bars as one would find in Kuta, or overpriced boutiques that you might find in Seminyak. You will however find miles of quiet black sand beaches, coconut groves and rice paddies. It is beautiful and it is quiet, and perhaps it isn’t for everyone but it is certainly for me!

My week there was unfortunately jaded by the fact that I came down with the dreaded Bali belly and spent more time in bed than I did surfing, doing yoga or taking pictures. These are some of the photos that I did take. My body may have been sick in Balian but my spirit was still happy to be in Bali. I can see it in these images.

Bali Doors

Bali Doors

I don’t think I have ever been to a country where aesthetic beauty is valued quite as much as it is in Bali.

It is a personal heaven for me, a place where people put flowers behind the ears of sculptures and doors are artworks! This whole blogpost is dedicated to the Balinese Door. They are so exquisitely beautiful that I just had to take pictures of them!

Nusa Lembongan Island – Bali

Nusa Lembongan Island – Bali

She glanced at me and said “Isn’t it magic?” I asked her what she meant, and she answered, “Isn’t it magic that the Gods remind us how beautiful this island is every night when the sun goes to sleep.”

What a gift it is, to be able to look to the cycles of nature and be brought into the present, and into a state of gratitude. Bali continues to offer me offerings of insight every day!

Here are some images from my time in Nusa Lembongan island off Bali. It most certainly is a magical little patch of beauty at any time of day or night!
