Umdloti couple shoot – Lauren + Tom

Umdloti couple shoot – Lauren + Tom

Lauren and Tom celebrated their two year wedding anniversary yesterday. To remember this very special time in their lives they organised a couple session with me. The idea was to do a very sweet and simple shoot on the beach in their home town of Umdloti. Unfortunately the weather had other plans and as we got to the beach a gale force wind started up of epic proportions. I am not afraid of bad weather when it comes to photography but in this case it just wasn’t working so I had to come up with plan B. And my plan B was to look toward the light ……

Best of Weddings 2012

Best of Weddings 2012

On New Years day 2013 I woke up in the mountains and watched two swallows flying in and out of their perfectly constructed mud nest in the verandah roof.  I sat there for ages watching, thinking and reflecting.

My plan for New Years Eve was to party with all of my good friends from school days. We had all gone up to the Drakensberg for the weekend and had planned a big feast followed by champagne, dancing and fun. New Years eve morning rolled in and I woke up with a horrible tummy bug and proceeded to spend the next 24 hours in bed!

My plan didn’t work out but waking up on New Years day hangover free and feeling a lot better gave me the chance to quietly give thanks for the blessings of 2012.

2012 was very good to Jacki Bruniquel Art and Photography. She took us from the Karoo to the Caribbean. Clients ranged from a Stay at home Mom to a Springbok rugby player, from an Accountant to an Architect to an Actress. We photographed a wedding in India. We photographed weddings on farmyards, in gardens, in fancy hotels and in the bush. Some weddings were grand, some were humble.

Every one of them was different and in every one of them there is a common thread.

That common thread is the thread of Love.

I love making pictures about love. I love making photos of the human narrative. I love finding that little thing that makes everyone unique in his or her own way and making pictures about that.

Here is my personal best wedding work of 2012.

Huge thanks to all of my clients for believing in me, for picking me and for becoming part of what was a hugely special year for me.

Thanks also my amazing assistant Tash. She is the hardest-working, loveliest human ever and I owe her more than words could ever express.

Goan Engagement Shoot – Raj and Parrot Entangled in India – Tash + Neil

Goan Engagement Shoot – Raj and Parrot Entangled in India – Tash + Neil

This is the engagement story of two of my most favorite humans on this planet.

Tash is my wonderful assistant and friend. A women who I love, admire and respect for being such a special person. She is always laughing, always smiling always caring.

We went out to India to photograph the wedding of Shane and Laurie and took a few extra days to explore Goa. Her long time boyfriend decided to come out to join us. One day whilst Neil and I were swimming in the warm calm Indian ocean on Palolem beach he told me that he had brought along a ring destined for Tash’s left hand. It took him a few days to actually pop the question (which was rather hard for me as I am not good at keeping secrets!) And when he did, he did it on a pretty Goan beach at sunset. I have never seen a bigger smile nor a happier face. Tash was literally walking on air!

You may ask why I have entitled this blogpost Raj and Parrot Entangled in India. Well .. I have nicknames for most of the people who I adore. Before arriving in India Tash had her hair dyed purple, turquoise and black. The Indian folk just loved her. Wherever we went we heard people saying (Please imagine this with Indian accent and head wobble at the end) I really really like your hair you look like a (insert either one of these birds) peacock, kingfisher, parrot. Parrot just stuck. Tash’s hairdresser would make a bloody killing in India. As for Raj … well Neil looks like a Bollywood actor and does such a fine rendition of one It just stuck. As for the entangled bit …. well ….. they are rather fond of each other!!!!

Love you both …… And yes I will be shooting their wedding!

Jax's favorite Wedding pics of 2011

Jax's favorite Wedding pics of 2011

I just cannot believe that 2011 is nearly over!! Has anyone else out there noticed how ridiculously fast this year has gone??? It’s been a huge year for me on so many levels. I broke down with burn out at the beginning of the year, picked myself back up again. I stopped drinking alcohol for 9 months which gave birth to the fact that I am no longer a smoker. I stopped biting my nails. I traveled to Madagascar and Hong Kong. I got engaged with Stu. And I worked. I worked alot.

Looking through a years worth of images is quite a reflective process. Going through all of these I am floored by just how lucky I am to do a job that I love so very much. More so, I realise how incredibly lucky I am to have such awesome clients. I wouldn’t have been able to make these pictures without wonderful clients!!!

2012 promises to be a cracker. We start the year off with a wedding in the Karoo which I am really excited about, then we are back at Netherwood which is one of my favorite venues. After that we head up to Clarens to photograph the wedding of a Springbok rugby player and his lovely lady and then we jet off to India for a wedding in Goa (yaaaaaaay!!!) And that is all before the mid February!  How exciting!

Thanks to everyone for everything and thanks to my friends and family  for not disowning me due to my workaholic tendencies!!! (that’s the problem with doing a job you love … sometimes its hard to stop doing it!!!)

Another Fearless Award – Happy days

Another Fearless Award – Happy days

Fearless Photographers is an international organisation which is dedicated to kickaas wedding photography, the type of wedding photography that is honest and takes your breath away. It’s dedicated to real moments, real emotion, great technical ability, and well seen photos. I decided to join them not so long ago as I am just completely blown away and inspired by the level of work that Fearless Photographers produce. Every couple of months they have a competition and the winners are given “Fearless awards”. I got 2 Fearless awards the first time I entered, which you can see here, and this time I got one. The judges received 2500 entries and only 183 were given awards. The level of photography is mind blowing to me so it really is a huge honor. You can see the rest of the amazing photos which were given awards on The Fearless Site. Thanks to Theresa and Rego as I couldn’t have taken this pic without you.
