Behind the Scenes – Jax in Action at recent weddings

Behind the Scenes – Jax in Action at recent weddings

It’s been an incredibly busy season in Jax land. KZN winters are not quiet that is for sure! Here are some daft photos that Lizzy has taken of me in action over the past while. When I see photos of myself shooting I can only wonder what my clients must  think but I am sure they are thankful I don’t wear dainty dresses and heels when they see the results!

PS Now I understand my neck and back issues!

Recent Engagement Shoots

Recent Engagement Shoots

It’s been a while since I have posted an engagement shoot so I thought I would change that today! I love doing engagement shoots as they give me valuable time with my clients which allows me to get to know their personalities and their best sides so that on the wedding day I am prepared to do the best job possible for them. They are also lots of fun!

The first flower crown in the pics was made by Carolyn McNeil from Adore Weddings and Events

The crown of red roses was made by Nicole Bezuidenhout from Buttons and Blooms

Time for time out ……

Time for time out ……

I believe that creative souls need to tap out sometimes to re-inspire themselves to make new work. The beginning of this year started off with a bang and we have hardly stopped running since. Luckily for me I had the foresight last year to block off some time for personal work this year, and now it is time for an adventure around South Africa! I am so excited for the space and time to breathe, to see and to be in a moment. I am also so excited to play with my camera and shoot just for me! Here are some pics from my last mission to the Karoo, they are exactly what I need right now.

Advertising Shoot In Mauritius – Behind The Scenes

Advertising Shoot In Mauritius – Behind The Scenes

I have had quite a few people asking about my recent trip to Mauritius and my Mom has been asking to see pictures! I didn’t go to Mauritius to put my feet up and drink pina coladas, I went there on a commercial photographic assignment which was very different to the type of work I ordinarily do and very different to drinking cocktails in the sun!

About 3 months ago I got an email from a Brian asking me if I would be interested in going out to Mauritius to shoot an image library capturing the spirit of the island for a UK based advertising agency who were working for a financial institution in Mauritius. I am always game for aeroplanes and tropical islands so of course my interest was sparked immediately. After an internet stalk we found out that Brian Bainbridge is a very talented art director who is based in Cape Town but does alot of work for Uk based company called Luxury Branding. We began chatting and slowly the initial brief changed to include a number of set up advertising shots, and as the scale of the project became clear to me I realised I needed a digital assistant and a lighting assistant. My permanent assistant Liz came along to help with the digital side and my very talented brother in law Tyrone Bradley graciously came out to help me with lighting and all things technical. Ty is a brilliant photographer in his own right so I feel really lucky to have had him on board.

It was a gruelling shoot, we were up at 4.30 am most days and shooting until sunset, dinner time was spent talking logistics and then there was all the downloading, backing up and selects to do in between. I was mentally and physically spent after our 12 days but felt really happy that I accepted the challenge! I definitely couldn’t have done it without such a wonderful team! It was hard work but such a incredible experience, we got to see so much of the island and work with so many genuinely lovely people. Thanks so much to everyone involved!!!

I must also thank Stephen Segal from Nikon for organising me a D800 in the nick of time and sorting out my gear post shoot!!!

PS I unfortunately cannot blog any images until the campaign has rolled out but here are some behind the scenes! Huge thanks to Liz and Ty for most of these photos.

Best of Weddings 2014

Best of Weddings 2014

2014 has been a profound year in the history of Jacki Bruniquel. There were intense periods where I felt as if I could hardly breathe, but there was also time for fun at Afrika Burn and time for reflection in Bali. Now that 2014 is over I can look back and say that I learnt a lot, I grew a lot and I have a lot to be grateful for.

Bali taught me that practicing daily gratitude is a key to living a happier life. I thank my lucky stars every day that I get to do a job where I get to be creative and capture beauty. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the wonderful people who have entrusted me to photograph their weddings in my own way over the past year. Huge thanks to all the special suppliers who have worked alongside me and special mention must also be made of my assistant Liz.

Here are some of my favorite weddings photos from 2014!
